Althaea Sebastiani's spellcraft course, expanded from her earlier Introduction to Spellcraft into this second edition, teaches the working craft behind the pretty correspondence lists. Its premise is that spells fail for reasons, and that the reasons can be learned. Eight lessons build the skill in sequence. The first grounds the vocabulary of spells, magick and witchcraft with the first exercises in feeling, moving and using energy. The second teaches timing: the lunar cycle phase by phase from dark moon to waning crescent, the solar cycles, eclipses, and the discipline of working specific spells for specific results. The third argues for throwing out the correspondence lists and learning to read objects directly, letting the spirit of the thing teach you. The remaining lessons carry the student through ritual structure and altered space, raising energy, boosting efficacy, troubleshooting the many ways a working can miss, and watching the ripples afterward, with cleansing at the close. Exercises run through every lesson, including a full protection charm worked in ritual frame. Plain-spoken, rigorous and practical.
