David A. Phillips treats the birth date as a blueprint that never stops being legible, and The Complete Book of Numerology is the fullest statement of his system. Subtitled Discovering the Inner Self, it takes an ordinary date of birth, reduces it in steps the reader can check with a pencil, and builds outward from there: a ruling number, a birth chart, the arrows of individuality that appear when the chart's grid fills or empties, and the day numbers that shade the basic type. The arithmetic stays simple throughout; the interpretations are where the book spends its ink.
The structure is a complete curriculum in sixteen chapters. After the charts come the ruling numbers one by one, each with its gifts and its characteristic failure mode; then the nine-year cycle of change, the three phases of life, and the pyramids that map a person's peak years against the calendar. Later chapters connect the numbers to astrology, read the power carried in names, and apply the whole apparatus to compatibility in relationships, to the development of intuition, and to the doctrine of reincarnation the system implies. Worked examples run through everything: a birth date becomes its ruling number on the page, a triple eight gets its own reading, and the 22/4 path is taken seriously enough to warn about the workaholism it can tip into.
Phillips was an Australian numerologist, and the text keeps the British spelling of his original. It suits readers who want a practical, example-driven system they can run on themselves and their families the same afternoon, rather than an academic history of number symbolism.
