Kenneth Smith, a Toltec apprentice who published five earlier books on the tradition as Ken Eagle Feather, presents the energy body as an objective, measurable part of human anatomy and teaches the reader to perceive and direct it. Issued by Bear and Company in 2008 as Awakening the Energy Body: From Shamanism to Bioenergetics, the book sets the Toltec investigators' findings beside the modern discipline of bioenergetics, the study of how energy flows and is exchanged between living systems. Smith's premise is that each of us inhabits an energy body whose interactions determine what we see, feel, and think, and that awareness of it can be developed deliberately. Chapters move from a world of energy and the way reality is constructed to reflection and projection, the nature of fundamentalism, the anatomy of the energy body, and the stages of awakening, closing with the unfolding moment and a creative life. Along the way he treats learning, imagination, altered states, and ontological development, with supportive procedures collected in an appendix. This scan reproduces the complete 2008 printing, including the endorsement pages, preface, contents, and the text illustrations of the energy body drawn by David Brown.
